About Alison
Candidate for Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner in Single Member District 6B09
Alison is social justice advocate who has spent her career in public service on behalf of the District's most vulnerable residents. Alison has worked as an investigator at the Public Defender Service, at DC nonprofit Free Minds Book Club, and now works at Civil Rights Corps, a non-profit organization that uses tools of litigation, community organizing, and policy advocacy to fight against the criminalization of poverty and other oppressive systems that violate the rights of marginalized people.
Doing this work has given Alison a unique understanding of public safety issues, and well as a front row seat to see the inequality that District residents face in trying to access resources and opportunities. Alison decided to run for ANC in hopes that she can do something in our little corner of the District to fight for racial and economic justice, affordable housing, equal opportunity, proactive approaches to public safety that involve building a stronger social safety net for our most vulnerable neighbors, environmental sustainability, and transparent and accountable government.

A native of Ithaca, New York, Alison received her bachelors degree in sociology from the University of Wisconsin - Madison, and lives at 17th and C SE with her dog, Cooper, who is a budding instagram star and a very good boy.

About 6B09
Single Member District 6B09 covers the section of Hill East in the attached map, which includes primarily single-family homes as well as Congressional Cemetery and a section of the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail. We barely missed out on including the Pretzel Bakery, and we look forward to fighting for it in future redistricting efforts.
